Surprise surprise. A comedy that was funny. It doesn’t feel like that happens very often these days. At least not as often as I would like. There were many LOLs in this movie and I absolutely cackled once. (When we see the x-ray view of Renfield’s roundhouse kick.)
And of course, every moment of Nick Cage as Dracula was priceless. Not many roles call for the full-on Nick Cage over-the-top mega-drama, but this sure did. No one could have performed this role better.

Acting
Awkwafina’s side story wasn’t necessary, but it didn’t detract. Fortunately, the story didn’t get sidetracked too much and it worked pretty well with the main story of Renfield. Speaking of which, Nicholas Hoult was also well cast for this role. Although I’m sure many good actors could have done an equally good job, I doubt if any could have done it any better.
Message
Not only did the movie have some innovative action scenes, humor, and good acting, but it also has a really good message about co-dependency that often gets overlooked as a cause of depression in the world today. Even though it was approached from the side of humor, I think there’s still a lot in here that might help people better recognize this issue.
Grade: B-
About The Peetimes: This is a short movie, so I only found two Peetimes. If you can, I would recommend the 2nd Peetime. It has the least amount of laughs and no action.
There are extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of Renfield.
