Movie Review – Next Goal Wins

next-goal-wins_hero

It’s the worst sports movie I’ve ever seen. The movie didn’t take the subject matter seriously. Taika Waititi admitted in the movie trailer that he know nothing about football. I’m guessing he doesn’t know anything about sports in general. The movie kind of feels like what you’d get from a sports movie if it’s written and directed by someone who’s not an avid sports fan.

Michael Fassbender was completely wasted in this movie. He was fine, but this movie is beneath him. Not to mention Elisabeth Moss. What on earth was she doing in this movie. She’s a talented actress and much better than the bit role she has in this movie.

There’s a documentary about the events in this story. I wish I had watched that instead.

Grade: D

About The Peetimes: I think the 2nd Peetime is the best. It’s all a training and recruiting montage. You won’t miss anything important.

There are extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of Next Goal Wins.

Movie Watching Must Have!!

I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!

Well, I’ve just got back from mystery advance screening and guess what it was…Next Goal Wins! It doesn’t come out until Boxing Day here. I must admit that my heart sank when I saw what it was because Dan was so harsh about it.

Ah well, we’d been for a nice meal and the tickets were paid for so we might as well sit through it. And, to be honest, we both enjoyed it! In my opinion it was amusing and up-lifting. Now I have to confess that I can’t say anything about its pedigree as a sport film because I’m not a sport fan in general or a football fan in particular. Maybe that was why I enjoyed it.

I couldn’t help but see comparisons to Cool Runnings…disgraced coach brought in to turn around the fortunes of the underdog sports team and everyone feels all warm and fuzzy at the end. I’d have graded it as a B/B+ but I know nothing about sport!
