Got this back when I was pregnant, but I’ll be keeping it forever, it’s just so handy. I don’t go to the movie theater that often (even back before quarantine when you actually could…) but I make sure the app and the movie list are all current and updated, cause it’s so handy! It’s great for running late cause you can read their summary, obviously awesome for bathroom or snack breaks mid movie, and I also love that it tells you if there’s anything after the credits which is very handy.

3: “42” 2013

This film follows the remarkable story of Jackie Robinson, portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman, who made history by breaking Major League Baseball’s “color barrier” in 1947. At a time when racial segregation was deeply entrenched in America, Robinson’s signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers challenged the prevailing prejudices and shattered barriers in professional sports.

Before Robinson entered the MLB, the league was exclusively reserved for white players, but his arrival marked a significant milestone in the fight for equality.

“42” delves into the immense psychological and physical challenges faced by Robinson as he stepped onto the field as the first black player in the MLB. Despite enduring racist taunts and discrimination from opposing teams, fans, and even some of his teammates, he displayed incredible courage and perseverance.

His refusal to respond to the hateful words thrown at him demonstrated a strength that surpassed mere physical endurance. Despite adversity, Robinson focused on his love for the game and his desire to pave the way for future generations of black players.

The film also highlights the transformative journeys of those around him, such as the Dodgers’ manager, who recognizes the importance of embracing racial diversity in the sport. Robinson and his supporters challenge societal norms and pave the way for a more inclusive future, both within baseball and in society as a whole.

By shedding light on the struggles faced by Robinson and the transformative impact of his resilience, “42” inspires viewers to reflect on the importance of standing up against injustice and fighting for equality. Ultimately, the film’s message resonates beyond the baseball diamond, reminding us of the power of resilience in breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive and just society.

Through these three outstanding films, we have witnessed the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity. They serve as poignant reminders of the resilience within us all, inspiring us to confront challenges head-on and persevere in pursuing our dreams.
