When you’re feeling depressed, the best thing to do is to ride it out. Although the feelings and thoughts can be all-consuming, it’s best to remember that these feelings are temporary, they won’t last forever, and that there’s always going to be brighter days to come. Until then, however, you’ll want to take a deep breath, switch off, and do what you can to feel better in the meantime.

One of the best ways to do this is to watch a feel-good movie, which is what we’re exploring today. However, these just aren’t any movies. These are movies that have the potential to change your life. Thus, the team of proxy.info shared their favorite films to raise spirits.

The Advantages of Being a Wallflower (Stephen Chbosky, 2012)

Starting with one of my firm favourites, this movie portrays a sociological and psychological compilation of a teenager’s life initiating a new cycle in his trip through the world, based on the book by Stephen Chbosky (who also directs this work).

Due to the adolescent’s need to deal with recent ghosts of the past, new friendships and passions will emerge, as well as new external and internal problems. This has some really beautiful scenes, some that are hard to watch, but overall the entire movie is heartwarming.

‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ may convey the greatest adolescent issues, always romanticised, while still relying on safe performances and deft directing. There’s a ton about mental health in here, but all subtly laced throughout the film, but you’ll left feeling good at the end. A true coming-of-age tale.

Amélie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001)

Amelie follows the journey of a young woman who has been deformed by her social milieu in the world, revealing all of the complexities that make up her unique acting style.

“Coming from the great French cinema, the picture has an ambience that employs a magical model for each historical resolve, resulting in a consistently enjoyable experience. Basically, this is a gorgeous French movie you won’t be able to help but fall in love with. One of my personal favourites,” explains Mark Harris, a lifestyle blogger.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (John Hughes, 1986)

This is a classic, and the chances are you’ve heard of it before. Personally, it’s a movie I’ll never get tired of. A teen chooses to skip school for the day and tells his parents he is sick.  On the other hand, the adolescent has no intention of spending a sunny day like the one he has been cooped up at home. And he’ll have the company of his best buddy and girlfriend to enjoy the day.

I’ve loved this app for years and use it at the theater and home. Super easy to use and so helpful to know when it’s a good time to run for the restroom. I notify my kids when it’s close to time, so I don’t end up running them to the restroom multiple times. (Updated review from 4 to 5 . I’d had an issue with the app while at the theater and it was quickly resolved with FANTASTIC customer service. Thanks, RunPee!)

The film ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ is one of the best representations of the 1980s in cinema. A film that combines the best of the decade while still including powerful philosophical issues into its plot. It will have you hooked for sure.

The Silver Linings Playbook (David O. Russell, 2012)

After passing through a psychological hospital, an unstable and unstable man finds courage in the form of a young woman to conquer her life’s challenges.

“‘Silver Linings Playbook’ is a light drama about the human being’s adaptable potential that maintains a motivational aura from beginning to end. A film that will leave you with a pleasant sensation when it ends. Definitely a modern classic,” shares writer Nicolas Taylor.

Hunting with Good Will (Gus Van Sant, 1997)

I couldn’t not include this classic movie that holds a spot as one of the greatest movies of all time. The movie is about a professor at a prestigious American university who discovers an invaluable skill in a young janitor who’s out of place.

The teacher, seeing this talent as well as the young guy’s destructive behaviour, decides to seek the assistance of an old friend psychologist for the young man. In his assaults, ‘Good Will Hunting’ is educated and empathetic, working with a scenario demonstrating how all persons must take extra care to fully develop their qualities.
