Women do like Bad Boys (the movie) and here’s the data to prove it

Infographic: how men and women rate the movie Bad Boys for Life.

There are a lot of universal miss-truths: dinosaurs are extinct — not true, we call them birds now — or, that antibiotics cure the flu (nope; it’s a virus and antibiotics only work on bacteria)…and that women don’t like action movies.

All wrong.

Here’s one that’s true: women like bad boys. Well, at least they like the Bad Boys movie.

Here are the RunPee app user’s ratings for Bad Boys for Life:
Expectation: 74.2*
After-movie: 80.1

*The Expectation is a score of how much users anticipate they’ll like the movie. (A rating that is unique to the RunPee app.)

An 80.1 After-Movie rating is respectable, especially for a movie in the action genre. But there’s more to it than that. Women had both a higher expectation, and a higher after-movie rating.

Men
Expectation: 73.2
After-movie: 79.0 (+5.8)

Women
Expectation: 77.2
After-movie: 83.4 (+6.2)

Brilliant idea with great information

I’ve been using RunPee for a few years now and it’s basically a requirement of going to the movies for me. The best part of course are the “pee times” that give you cues, synopses and times for when you can pee without missing the most important parts of the movie. There is also information about the credits- length, extras and if there are any extra scenes at the wayyy end. Super helpful to just know that it is or isn’t worth staying. There is a timer function that will buzz your phone when it’s a good time to pee. I also appreciate that the app is very conscientious about it being an app you use in a theater- dark background, all silent alarms etc. I will always enjoy the experience of the theater even if I could watch things at home- but I’ve even used it at home to check for things like after credit scenes or other information too.

There you have it. Women rated the movie better than men, both in expectation and after-movie scores. But it’s even more interesting when we break down the results by gender and age.

Aftermovie

Age range Men Women
60+ 77.3 79.9
50 – 59 78.5 87.8
40 – 49 78.5 83.9
30 – 39 78.9 81.2
20 – 29 84.5 79.3
10 – 19 83.5 0

Who would have thought that women in the 50-59 age range would rate this movie the highest? It’s clear that older women liked the movie more than younger women. It’s exactly the opposite for men, where men between 20-29 had the highest rating.

The takeaway

If you’re a woman in the 50-59 bracket who hasn’t seen Bad Boys for Life, then grab your girlfriends and get to the theater and leave your men behind. 🙂

In the RunPee app we have a popular feature called the Peeple’s Poll. (That’s not a typo.) Many other websites/apps have movie polls, but only RunPee asks users for their age and gender, so we can provide our fans with results specific to that, along with the overall population results. We’re very proud of our Peeple’s Polls and the Peeple that vote in it.

Don’t miss your favorite movie moments because you have to pee or need a snack. Use the RunPee app (Androidor iPhone) when you go to the movies. We have Peetimes for all wide release films every week, including Moana 2, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Kraven the Hunter, Wicked, Gladiator II and coming soon Mufasa: The Lion King, Nosferatu, A Complete Unknown and many others. We have literally thousands of Peetimes—from classic movies through today’s blockbusters. You can also keep up with movie news and reviews on our blog, or by following us on Twitter @RunPee. If there’s a new film out there, we’ve got your bladder covered.

  1. A couple of things. 1 – I love action movies and I’m a gal, but i think I might be unusual. 2. I think a lot of women just find the guys in this movie attractive, rather than just liking action films.

But then you have a lot of female votes for Rise of Skywalker. It might be that more female RunPee fans are apt to vote and like a movie?

I’m not sure how to parse that out. Maybe it will be more clear i Peeple’s Polls over time. It would be good to look at votes in action films generally, maybe?

I had no intention of watching this movie, but maybe I should reconsider if it’s getting such good scores.

It’s not like I haven’t seen a gazillion cop shows/movies. I’m even enjoying The Rookie on TV right now…although I freely admit I am watching it solely as Nathan Fillion fan. It also has enough humor to keep me invested. I did try to watch David Boreanz’s Seals show, but it was too rough and mean-streets for me. So while I’d like to support Angel, it’s just not my kind of action.

So there’s a bunch of my thoughts. I love action and sci-fi (esp when combined), but am particular about it. Too violent or sad and I tune out.

  2. In the future I’ll do more analysis of the Peeple’s Poll results on things like how the demographics vary by genre. I think that would be interesting.
