Here’s what’s to come for the RunPee app in the next year or so.

Cleaning House

just-keep-cleaning-just-keep-cleaning-just-keep-cleaning

I have a super busy summer and fall ahead of me with work on my day job (CTO at Mapt.co). I generally reserve Thursday’s as RunPee Day. That’s the day we go see movies and I try to make it a lite day because the last thing I want is to watch a movie and get Peetimes after having a crap-day at work. Therefor, at the very least I’ll be able to spend about three hours on Thursdays working on cleaning up features in the RunPee app.

Coming Soon, a Coming Soon Feature

Something I have wanted to do for a long time is add a coming soon section to the Movie List. That way you could see what movies are coming up in the next few weeks/months and give them a thumbs-up if you would like to have Peetimes for that movie. One of the difficulties I face is deciding which movies to add Peetimes for. If a movie is a wide release then we’ll do our very best to get Peetimes for it. But it’s the popular limited-release movies that give us fits. First, I don’t even know which ones are coming out all the time because there are so many to keep up with. And second, I can’t go see many of them anyway because they either don’t show here in Asheville, NC. Or, if they do, they show up in theaters a few weeks after premeiring in the big cities. That doesn’t do most of you all any good. So I have to pay someone else to go see the movie. That costs me $50 so I need to know if it’s worth it.

Multi-Lingual

speaks-minionese

Making the RunPee app multi-lingual is going to be a big bunch of work. I have no idea how long this will take to accomplish. My hope is that it will be ready by this time next year, but at this stage, that’s just a hope. This will require lots of updates, not just to the RunPee app but also to the database, and the RunPee admin app.

The reason I haven’t made RunPee multi-lingual before is because paying to translate Peetimes would be cost-prohibative. Fortunately, the advances in AI/LLMs has grown to the point that it’s doable. I’ll enter the Peetimes in English, and then use an API to get an LLM to translate those Peetimes into probably about three dozen languages, maybe more. Because once I add the functionality to to make RunPee work in two languages it’s no more effort to make it work in 200 languages.

Off the top of my head we’ll have Peetimes in every language spoken in the Europe, Chinese, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, all of the south Asian languages, Urdu, probably at least half a dozen versions of Hindi, and at least a few dozen languages representing Africa.

This app is the best wingman for a movie goer, especially when you have to go. It even has a vibrating timer that is spot on for those ‘go times’ some of us need! There are many other features that are wonderful. It even lets you know when the kill scenes are coming up for the people and animals for those who may have sensitivities to that type of content. The staff go above and beyond!

There is one little problem, I personally be able to add Peetimes for “local” movies. To do that I will need to have local help who can go see movies and add them to the database. My plan is to track the donations made for each country individually. I will take 50% and use the other 50% to fund paying people to get Peetimes. If, for instance, I pay someone in China $50 to see a movie and do the Peetimes then once I get $100 in donations total from China then I can pay someone to go add Peetimes for a Chinese movie.

If you would be interested in doing this sort of work then please leave a comment below and we’ll talk.

And yes, of course, Minionese will be one of the translated languages. 🙂

Don’t miss your favorite movie moments because you have to pee or need a snack. Use the RunPee app (Androidor iPhone) when you go to the movies. We have Peetimes for all wide release films every week, including Moana 2, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Kraven the Hunter, Wicked, Gladiator II and coming soon Mufasa: The Lion King, Nosferatu, A Complete Unknown and many others. We have literally thousands of Peetimes—from classic movies through today’s blockbusters. You can also keep up with movie news and reviews on our blog, or by following us on Twitter @RunPee. If there’s a new film out there, we’ve got your bladder covered.

Hey, it would be great if we could sort movies by rating so we could see at a glance which movies got the best reviews.

    1. Thanks, I like that. I’ll add it to the list. I’ll give you the option to see recent movies in order of their Review Grade and by Peeple’s Poll score.

  2. A sex scene warning would be appreciated. I go to the movies with my dad and would prefer a warning so I can run pee. Thanks!

    1. We sort of have that already. We have “Alert Peetimes.” You can read about them here: https://runpee.com/alert-peetimes/

The trouble is that we can’t have Alert Peetimes for every sex scene. It kind of has to be a special case. The one time I can think of that we added them was in Oppenheimer. There were some nude/sex scenes that really didn’t “need” to be in the movie and it made a lot of people uncomfortable, so we added them later after getting feedback.

I think it might be a better use of your time to only review movies that are over 2 hours long. I only ever look at this app for films over that time because even I can last 2 hours, and I’m old and need to run and pee more often than I used to!

    1. If we question adding a movie to the database then the runtime length definitely comes into play. Thanks.

  6. Been with you since the beginning I think I even did a review for you once. Your app is still amazing. Keep up your great work. I will be donating again. My favorite part of it is anything extra after the credits. Thanks

The RunPee app is one of the best movie app out there. Wasn’t it for this app, man people would never know that some movies has post credits scenes. People should do like me and print out a bunch of “ads” (a picture of the app logo pluss a small explanation what the app do). Then hand them around both inside and outside cinemas.

    1. That’s very kind of you. Thanks!

I remember few years ago you had an idea about adding rest rooms locations and how far they are from the theater. I know it is kind of difficult to get that information for all movie theaters, but hey you have community here and I am sure alot will be willing to volunteer ‍♂️

  9. This is the only app I’ve paid for & I truly appreciate it! I’ve told many people about it, too! Thanks for all you do to give us the info we need! I also do appreciate knowing if there is anything during credits or after. I’ve always watched the credits & enjoy discussing the movie during the theme music at the end. I’ve seen many a surprise at the end that way that others miss who get right up at the end! Keep up the good work 🙂

    1. Thanks Laurie. I appreciate your long time support. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make the RunPee app better for you.

  10. Thanks for all the hard work you do on this app! My favorite aspect is the information about whether or not there are any post-credit scenes – and if they are worth staying for! I always check for those right before the previews start.

  11. I absolutely Love you! I’m 77, and unlike another who commented here, I can only sit in a movie an hour and a half at best before I have to go to the bathroom. My friends that go to the movies with me are the same. I have given this one Run Pee app advice to so many people you wouldn’t believe!
    I’m so grateful to you.

    1. Awwww, thank you for sharing that. I’m so happy that the RunPee app makes your movie going experience a little better.

Would you consider a Patreon? I donate to a couple of apps that way, like pindigo, the pinball score tracking app.

    1. Yes, I’m going to look into Patreon. Thanks for the suggestion.

  13. I noticed that you mentioned some movies not being available in Ashville, NC, so I am assuming you live in or around Ashville. I hope you and yours are recovering slow though it may be, from Helene. Thank you for continuing to put out RunPee during this time.

I am 76 and agree wholeheartedly with the 77 year old about how much better my movie going experience is with your app. It removes the stress of waiting too long and then missing an important part of the movie. LOL

    1. I’m glad this app is going to help improve your movie experience. That’s always our goal. Please let us know anytime you think of something we can do to make the RunPee app better for you.

Big fan of the app. It has truly improved my moviegoing experience. I have a feature request that I think would add a lot of value as an apple user: Enabling Live Activities to display a countdown clock to the next pee time. This feature pins a persistent notification at the top of the user’s screen when unlocked and on their lock screen when locked or in standby . It would allow a user to view the countdown clock by glancing at their iPhone or Apple Watch, rather than opening the app and potentially being disruptive to those around them. This article outlines how live activities can be enabled on any app: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/activitykit/displaying-live-data-with-live-activities. Hope that is helpful! Cheers, Jordan

    1. Hi Jordan. Thanks for the suggestion. The RunPee app is built using the Flutter framework. I found a package that will handle Live Activities on iOS. I’m going to plan on adding that in the next app update.

I am interested in providing pee times for local/independant films. I live in Brooklyn, NY. Let me know if you need any help in NYC!

    1. Hi Jordan. Thanks! I’ll send you and email and we can “talk.”
