I have to admit, Young Washington wasn’t at the top of my “to see” list this month—but I’m glad I went.
Rather than framing the story as a documentary or relying on a narrator to provide historical perspective, the film puts you directly in the moment. It has a true “you are there” feel.

What stood out most is how Young Washington knocks George off his pedestal. He’s much more than just the first president or the familiar figure from school textbooks—he’s presented as a young man trying to find his place in the world. He makes mistakes, poor decisions, and learns the hard way—something we can all relate to.
I was also impressed by how the filmmakers “did more with less.” With a fraction of the budget of larger summer epics, the film still feels fully realized. The sets are spot-on, the cinematography is strong, the action is grounded (no over-the-top explosions, just muskets and cannon fire), and the dialogue holds your attention throughout the film.

My bladder thanks you so much!! App works great for telling u when and for how long you have a pee break! I didn't use the timer function so the dialog in the movie was a great clue as to when to go. I also liked the info about each movie to know whether there was any extra scenes during or after the credits. Nothing worse than waiting for all the credits and then no extra scene.

Much of that success comes down to a strong cast. William Franklyn-Miller stands out as Young George, holding his own alongside veterans like Mary-Louise Parker, Kelsey Grammer, and Sir Ben Kingsley.
This film is worthy of your consideration. Whether you bring your kids, parents or grandparents – they’ll all get something out of Young Washington.
