Movie Review - The Black Phone
The Black Phone had my full attention right from the start. Surprisingly, it had Runpee Mom from the get go too. Horror movies are not her thing, she prefers historical movies but I was lucky enough to convince her into going with me. I asked her what she thought as the credits were rolling and she immediately popped off with, "That's an A for sure!" She loved it too.
From the cast to the directing and pacing, this movie checked off all those boxes. Watching the character development of Finney (Mason Thames) was a work of art in itself. He did everything right. I'll be watching for this youngster, I have a feeling he's going to become a huge hit throughout his career. His sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) was a gem! She blew me away too, she's a feisty one for sure.
I could talk about this movie all day long, Mom and I had a blast dissecting it over the drive home and well into the evening. I'll make this review shorter than our conversation and leave you with one thought, we highly recommend this one. I think you'll be awed in ways that will leave you happy you saw it.

Plot Finney Shaw is a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of no use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer's previous victims. And they are dead-set on making sure that what happened to them doesn't happen to Finney.
