Going into this movie, my expectations were high. But not high enough. It exceeded my hopes by leaps and bounds. I highly encourage people to see this before someone ruins the experience by spoiling some of the story. I can’t wait to go back and watch it again with my wife.
Direction and Style
The story and acting are outstanding, but what I want to acknowledge first is the direction from Alejandro G. Iñárritu. (The Revenant, Birdman, etc.) What stands out to me is the shift in style throughout the movie. To start with, it feels like a Wes Anderson film—Asteroid City, Isle of Dogs, The Grand Budapest Hotel, etc. So much so that, if I hadn’t already known, fifteen minutes in I would have been searching to find out who directed it. Imitating the style of Wes Anderson isn’t what impresses me. It’s that the style shifts from scene to scene based on the plot. But the shift in style isn’t done to be cute. I can’t get into it more without spoiling the story, but there’s a reason, and it’s brilliant.

Acting
Masterful, all the way around. Not just Tom Cruise, but the entire cast. But mostly Tom Cruise. Cruise’s character required tremendous acting skill to pull off, and he did it.
Story
This is what I most enjoyed about the movie. For part of the movie, it feels like there are layers of complexity being added on that might cause it to tumble into a mess. But it works out.

If you’re like me and enjoy a 92oz soda as part of the movie experience, you’ll be thankful for this app telling you the best times to go for a quick break. Whether that’s to refill your soda or recycle it.
Possibly an even better feature is the info on if the movie has after credits scenes. There’s nothing worse than sitting there reading about who the key grip was, then finding out that’s all you did. I blame Marvel for the stupid trend.
Seriously, I see a dozen movies a month and use this app every single time. Worth every Penny of the infinity coin thing I bought.

The movie is listed as a comedy, but I don’t remember laughing even once or hearing anyone in the audience laugh. But it is funny, just not ha ha, funny.
