Don’t let the foreboding title The End of the World Is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization mislead you. It’s not all doom-and-gloom. Only mostly doom-and-gloom. 🙂
The book is brilliantly written and narrated—if you go with the audiobook. The author, Peter Zeihan, packs the book with all the history you need to know in order to paint the context for his projections. He breaks down everything from agriculture to mining continent by continent, region by region, and country by country so that you’ll have all the information you need to make your own judgments.
Spoiler: the USA is in better shape than most, but boy is China deep in the shit.
But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s a video of the Bloomberg-Britain anchors interviewing Peter Zeihan back in 2019 about the prospect of a hard Brexit. With the advantage of hindsight now you can see that he was pretty spot-on with his analysis.
Personally, I think Zeihan’s projections are a worst-case scenario because he doesn’t give quite enough credit to the exponential growth of technology, which could be humanities only saving grace with the problems we face.
