The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

Mining the vein that is literature for film scripts is not a new phenomenon. Admittedly, the first known attempt was a 45 second adaptation of a scene from a 1895 novel called Trilby. It is, sadly, now lost but Trilby And Little Billee was filmed in 1896. Since then there have been countless times when someone read a book and thought that it would be a good idea to get the cameras out and make a movie.

But, perhaps, one of the biggest influences on film makers has been the relatively new Teen and Young Adult fiction genre. Twilight, Harry Potter, Divergent, and The Maze Runner have all sold millions of books followed by millions of cinema tickets. Another player in this field is Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. These books were adapted into four films and earned over three billion dollars at the box office. That sort of cash gets anybodies creative juices flowing and, hey presto, here comes a prequel!
