The app that tells you the best time to run and pee during a movie without missing the best scenes

The Peeple's Poll

Most movie ratings give you one number. The Peeple's Poll asks two questions: what did you expect before the movie, and what did you think after? Then it shows you how people like you answered.

Why can't I give an Expectation grade?

If the app says your Expectation rating isn't available, that's by design. The Expectation grade is only given before the movie, from one of two places:

  • the Peeple's Poll card on the Peetimes screen, or
  • the screen before you start the timer.

It only makes sense to say what you expect before you've seen it, so that's the only time we ask. You can still give your Final grade any time.

How the Poll works

  1. Before the movie: give your Expectation grade from the Peetimes screen or right before you start the timer.
  2. After the movie: give your Final grade. The timer offers it near the end of the movie. You can also use the Peeple's Poll card on the Peetimes screen, or the Poll screen from Movie Info, any time later.

You don't need to sign in to vote. Before your Final grade, we ask for your birth year and gender. That's what makes the results useful.

Reading the results

The results show:

  • All users: how everyone graded the movie.
  • Your demographic: how people your age and gender graded it. If you're a 40-year-old woman, a movie's overall grade is nice to know, but what other women around your age thought is probably more useful.
  • Better, equal or worse than expected: whether people's Final grade beat their Expectation grade.

Expectation vs. Final: an example

Take Captain Marvel. In the Peeple's Poll it had a respectable 7.9 Expectation grade and an 8.5 Final grade, so people liked it more than they expected (+0.6).

That's not remarkable on its own. But at the time, Captain Marvel sat at 6.9 on IMDb and a 49% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, after a concerted campaign to drag those scores down. Seeing what people expected next to what they actually thought tells you something a single number can't.

Rate the movies you've already seen

Your Final grade doesn't expire. Saw a movie ten years ago? Rate it now from the Poll screen on its Movie Info page. We'd be delighted if you went back through the archive and rated a pile of them.

Two shortcuts:

  • Rate a whole series. Open Search, go to the Genre tab, and pick one, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You'll get every movie we have in it, and you can rate them one by one.
  • Rate your library. Open Search and go to the My Library tab to see the movies you've looked up.

Share the results

Whether or not you vote, you can share a movie's Peeple's Poll results from the Poll screen. It's one of the nicest free ways to help RunPee.
