Troubleshooting

The RunPee timer has been used hundreds of thousands of times, and it works for almost everyone. When it doesn't, the weak link is usually the phone: the timer depends on your operating system to deliver its notifications, and phones sometimes decide they know better. Here's how to sort it out.

My timer alerts don't arrive

The timer alerts you about 30 seconds before each Peetime. If you're not getting them, start with the app's built-in checks.

  1. Open any movie and tap the Timer button. On the screen before the timer starts, find the Notification Health card.
  2. Tap Timer Support.
  3. Tap Send Test Notification and Test Vibration.

If both tests work, your phone can deliver RunPee's alerts, and something is blocking them while the timer runs. Check the battery settings below.

If notifications are turned off for RunPee, the app warns you before you start the timer. Tap Fix Now and it takes you to the right setting. (You can tap Start Anyway, but you won't get alerts.)

A few things that are fine, and one that isn't

  • Airplane Mode is fine. Alerts are scheduled on your phone when you start the timer, so they arrive without a connection.
  • Don't force-close the app. Your alerts will still arrive, but force-closing stops the countdown on screen.

Samsung and other Android phones: check battery settings

Some Android phones, Samsung Galaxy phones especially, hold back notifications from apps they're "optimizing" for battery. One user found his alerts only showed up after he unlocked his phone. The fix was in his phone's settings: RunPee's battery setting was Optimized. He changed it to Unrestricted and the alerts worked from then on.

On most Samsung phones: Settings → Apps → RunPee → Battery → Unrestricted. The exact wording varies by phone.

Using a smartwatch

Timer Support has notes on smartwatches too. Your watch usually mirrors what your phone does, so get the test notification working on the phone first.

I don't see new movies

We add about two new movies a week, so there's almost always something new. If the Movie List looks stale:

  1. Check your connection. The app checks our server for new movies when it starts, so make sure you have Wi-Fi or data, then close and reopen the app.
  2. Check manually. Open the menu, go to App Settings, and tap Check server for updates.
  3. Reinstall, as a last resort. If you still don't see new movies, uninstall RunPee and install it again from Google Play or the App Store. If you're signed in, your history and poll votes come back when you sign in again.

Remember that new Peetimes usually go up on opening night, often by about 11 PM Eastern. A movie opening this Thursday won't be listed on Wednesday. See the FAQ for more.

Still having trouble?

Use Contact Support in the app. You'll find it in the menu under App Settings, and also in Timer Support. It sends us your app version and the movie you're on, which saves a lot of back and forth. You can also email [email protected].
