Godzilla Lyrics & Video from Blue Oyster Cult

Yeah, I’m bad, I’m bad, you know it…

Blue Oyster cult recognized cool weird shit. They have a song about the Dead Reaper — with lots of cowbell, — and another honoring the King of Lizards, Godzilla. With a new Godzilla film out centering the Monsterverse franchise, it’s a good time to remind everyone of the coolness that Blue Oyster Cult produced in 1977, titled — naturally — Godzilla. And as one commenter on You Tube prophetically wrote, “You know you’re a full-blown monster badass when Blue Oyster Cult writes and does your theme song.” I think we can all agree.

Here is a fun Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla video, followed by the lyrics so you can sing along (the whole thing, more than just the chorus of GO GO GO GODZILLA!).

Godzilla Lyrics

[By Blue Öyster Cult]

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high-tension wires down

Helpless people on subway trains
Scream, bug-eyed, as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh, no, they say he’s got to go
Go, go, Godzilla (yeah)
Oh, no, there goes Tokyo
Go, go, Godzilla (yeah)

Oh, no, they say he’s got to go
Go, go, Godzilla (yeah)
Oh, no, there goes Tokyo
Go, go, Godzilla (yeah)
Godzilla!

Main Song from A Star Is Born – Video and Lyrics from Shallow – by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

lady gaga and bradley cooper in a star is born
Not a shallow song.

One of the top movie hits from 2018 is A Star is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and their best film song is Shallow, a duet that slays everyone who hears it. It’s almost a perfect song, and it won the awards to prove it:

  • Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song
  • Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media
  • Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
  • Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Song
Shallow also got an Oscar nod for Best Original Song, and the movie itself, A Star is Born, is nominated for seven other different Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Sound Mixing

It was also announced by the Oscars Academy (via Twitter) that Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper will perform Shallow at the 2019 Oscars. All the news sources say Copper will perform in a tuxedo as himself, and not as his character Jackson Maine. IndieWire says “Cooper doesn’t intend to bring back Jackson’s deep voice either as he said he has fully retired the character.” No matter. Lady Gaga will probably do her big extravagantly costumed persona as herself. Expect the song to bring down the house!

Here’s the movie video of their on-stage duet of Shallow, followed by the lyrics for you to learn, and sing along to in the privacy of your shower:

Shallow

(Sung by  Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga)

Tell me somethin’, girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin’ else you’re searchin’ for?

I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longin’ for change
And in the bad times I fear myself

Tell me something, boy
Aren’t you tired tryin’ to fill that void?
Or do you need more?
Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore?

I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longing for change
And in the bad times I fear myself
I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoah!

I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now…

Love, Actually and Christmas Is All Around (That “Festering Turd of a Record”)

bill nighy singing about christmas in love actually.
Father Christmas and his elves want you to buy his festering turd of a record.

Bill Nighy rocks. And in Love, Actually, he rocks even harder as a washed up, has-been rock star, an aging bad boy we can’t help but love.

Also, he’s one of those actors I’m certain can do no wrong. Hear that, Nighy? We’re all in agreement here: RunPee loves you. 🙂

Love, Actually is one of my absolute top Christmas movies; it gets a annual rewatch during the holidays, and yes, I still tear up at the denouement in the airport when everyone comes together. So many good feels!

In the teaser, Nighy’s character attempts to sing Christmas Is All Around…getting it wrong twice, then letting loose with a string of awesome British curses. I want to memorize that line and use it freely.

The scene and the song, for your Christmas viewing pleasure:

Here’s the lyrics for you as well, if you want to take this one out for a holiday caroling stroll.

Christmas Is All Around

As sang by Billy Mack (Bill Nighy)
I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
Christmas is all around me
And so the feeling grows
It’s written in the wind
It’s everywhere I go
So if you really love Christmas
C’mon and let it snow
You know I love Christmas
I always will
My mind’s made up
The way that I feel
There’s no beginning
There’ll be no end
‘Cause on Christmas
You can depend
You gave your presents to me
And I gave mine to you
I need Santa beside me
In everything I do
You know I love Christmas
I always will
My mind’s made up
The way that I feel
There’s no beginning
There’ll be no end
‘Cause on Christmas
You can depend
‘Cause on Christmas
You can depend
It’s written on the wind
It’s everywhere I go
So if you really love me
C’mon and let it show
C’mon and let it show
So if you really love
C’mon and let it
If you really love me
C’mon and let it
Now if you really love me
C’mon and let it show…

Hit Song From the Movie Smallfoot – Let It Lie – by Common (with Lyrics)

Really, this song is awesome, but is a spoiler. You’re warned!

I loved the animated Smallfoot, and even gave it a coveted A+ rating. One of the highlights that pushed it that stratospheric score are the appealing songs through out. The absolute, 100% standout number, goes to  Let It Lie, sang by the StoneKeeper (the singer Common). I listen to a daily, for some reason, set in my Work Playlist. It’s that good. It lends a true twist and deep backstory to an otherwise light and fun outing.

I originally included the song link in my Smallfoot review, but decided to tease it out into its own post to make it easier to search for and find (use the Magnifying Lens in the upper right navigation corner to Search for Let it Lie, or Common, or Smallfoot).

It’s too soon to show the video without using a bootleg copy, but you can give it a listen on the link below.

I must warn you now: DO NOT LISTEN IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN SMALLFOOT.  The song gives away the big secret, and it’s a doozy. You’ll want to keep this a surprise: it sends chills down my spine every time. It’s the also only song in a PG rated children’s movie that mentions genocide. That’s got be some kind of record!

So consider this a big Spoiler Alert. Stop here if you even PLAN to wait for the DVD.

Here are the Smallfoot lyrics for Let It Lie, as sung by Common:

[MIGO (Channing Tatum)] Um, where are you takin’ me?

[THE STONEKEEPER (Common)] Aha, so many questions. I think it’s about time I give you some answers

[MIGO] Wow. What is this?

[THE STONEKEEPER] You see, Migo
There was a time when Yetis lived beneath the clouds
We were alive and we were thriving till we came across a crowd
Of Smallfoot, that’s right, we used to live down there
But there were actions we could not forgive down there
And though they used a different nomenclature
Man, or human, they showed us human nature
A dangerous species that we approached with wonder
They attacked with their spears and their smokin’ sticks of thunder
They called us Sasquatch, they called us abominable
They chased us, pursued us, their persistence indomitable
We had no choice but to run and hide
Otherwise, we surmised we were facin’ genocide
So we climbed this mountain just to stay alive
You see, we knew that up here, Smallfoot cannot survive
So it was here the first law was written in stone
It was named and proclaimed as a truth to be known
Our world is an island, it floats on a sea of endless clouds
That’s how it would be
And then we wrote more laws, more rules to obey
For the sake of us all, it was the only way
To protect us from all of the human ravages
Heaped upon us by those human savages

(Now you know, now you know, now you know)
(Now you know, now you know) And new rules apply
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)
So it’s best just to let it lie (Let it lie)
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)
(Now you know, now you know) And you can’t deny
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)
That it’s best just to let it lie (Let it lie)

[MIGO] But my Smallfoot, he’s not like that

[THE STONEKEEPER] They’re all like that. Tell me, when you found him. Did he greet you with open arms?
They don’t care about us. They don’t care about anything but themselves. Which is why we must do the same if we care about our future

[MIGO] Wait, we’re below the clouds

[THE STONEKEEPER] Or so it would seem, but look closer

[MIGO] Those aren’t clouds, it’s steam

[THE STONEKEEPER] The stones are working

[MIGO] The stones?

[THE STONEKEEPER] Every job and every task is pointless as it seems
All of it ensures that this important machine
Keeps turning and turning and spinnin’ around
So those below don’t look up and those above don’t look down
And they’ll look ’cause even if they hear of these atrocities
The only thing stronger than fear is curiosity
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)

[MIGO] Wait so, so none of those stones are true, they’re all lies?
(Now you know, now you know, let it lie)

[THE STONEKEEPER] Good lies to protect our world
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)

[MIGO] But they need to know the truth

[THE STONEKEEPER] Oh, do they?
You feel emboldened by your noble quest to find the truth
I chalk it up to the naive innocence of youth
So let me share a secret that you’ll learn as you grow older
What’s true or not true is in the eye of the beholder
So do you wanna prevent our own annihilation? (Yes!)
Then our only goal should be to control the flow of information
Unless you wanna see the Smallfoot conquer and pillage (No!)
Then protect the lie and you protect the village
Lives are at stake, Migo. Your friends, your father, Meechee
She’s curious and you know what they say: curiosity killed the yak

[MIGO] So what do you want me to do?

[THE STONEKEEPER] Tell everyone you were lying about the Smallfoot

[MIGO] But they’ve already seen it, they–they’re not gonna believe me

[THE STONEKEEPER] You’ll be surprised at what they’ll believe
You think knowledge is power, Migo?
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)
(Now you know, now you know)
Question is
(Now you know, now you know, now you know)
What are you gonna do with that power?
(Hmm)

Movie Review – SmallFoot

Guardians of the Galaxy Song – Guardians Inferno Video and Lyrics

I think this is our long-awaited Dance Off.

The Guardians of the Galaxy, Vols 1 and 2, are already beloved movie icons, both inside and outside the geek crowd. As a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their reach extends from Disney theme parks, with the hugely popular Guardian’s Breakout ride, to this little gem of a disco parody song called The Guardians Inferno.

It’s a catchy tune, and watching the video is great fun. Almost every character (plus erstwhile  director James Gunn) are featured in shiny, tight, glittery, and frankly outlandish outfits that wouldn’t stick out on the dance floor in the 80s.  Mutton chops and afros make an appearance too. If you’ve seen the movies, you’ll understand why David Hasselhoff (AKA Zardu Hasslefrou) sings this song — and if you know anything about Marvel comics, you’ll adore the Stan Lee cameo at the end.

Try to see if you can spot these characters from the films:

  • Gamora
  • Kraglin/Rocket
  • Drax
  • Nebula
  • Mantis
  • Star Lord
  • (And also director James Gunn)

Lyrics are below. And by the way, a “procyon lotor” is a raccoon. But you probably guessed that. 🙂

Here are the lyrics to this hugely amusing bonus treat:

Guardians Inferno

(Song byThe Sneepers, 2017)

Getting down and dirty with a procyon lotor
Got no people skills but he’s good with motors

That weird thing by his side’s an infantilized sequoia
The two of them walk by, people say “oh boy-a”

They ask me why I’m bringin’
A baby into battle
That’s really irresponsible
And getting them rattled

I say “give me a break
Get off of my back damn, it”
I didn’t learn parenting
My daddy was a planet

Zardu Hasselfrau, Zardu Hasselfrau, hey
Zardu Hasselfrau, Zardu Hasselfrau, hey

In these times of hardship
Just remember…

We
Are
Groot.
